Did you know that you can complete many routine transactions online without a physical visit to a location?

Before you make a reservation, try to perform your transaction online!

• Update your address
• Renew your Driver's License/State ID/CDL 
  • If you require a temporary credential that has your photo on it, do not use this online service. You need to make a reservation and appear in person.  Your credential cannot be upgraded from Non-REAL ID to REAL ID online.  Your first time getting a REAL ID requires an in person reservation.

Mail-In & Drop Box Services

These transactions can be submitted by mail or through the DROP OFF BOX: 600 New London Avenue, Cranston, RI, 02920. The drop box is accessible only during normal business hours - Monday thru Friday, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm. Please be sure to include a completed form, a check or money order, and your contact information in case we have questions. Forms can be found here.  Fees can be found here. Please allow 7-14 days for your transaction to be processed.

• Renew your driver license, learner permit, or ID card
• Duplicate driver license, learner permit, or ID card
• Updates to existing license, ID card, or registration (except name changes)
• Duplicate registration
• Remake plates
• Late renewal of a cancelled registration with same plates (amount on the check must be blank and will be filled out by DMV and receipt provided)
• Duplicate title (with original lien release if needed
• New Registration
  • Please mail in a blank personal or business check made out to the RI DMV, and don’t forget to date and sign the check. Third-party checks are never accepted. The amount on the check must be blank and will be filled out by the RI DMV. The RI DMV also accepts credit cards through the mail. Please provide the credit card number, expiration date, CVV code, and the name on the credit card. A receipt will be mailed with the registration paperwork.
  • All mail-in forms must be notarized and only original documents are accepted. No photocopies.
  • New plate(s) and registration sticker(s) will be mailed with the registration paperwork.
  • Please make sure all forms are completely filled out. Please provide contact information (telephone number and email address) in case there are any questions.

* Special Notes:

• Licenses and IDs cannot be upgraded from non-Real ID to Real ID online.  You must appear in person to do so.
• Online renewals and / or duplicates of licenses and IDs WILL NOT generate a paper temporary copy with a photo.  If you need a temporary with a photo, DO NOT complete online.  Make a reservation to visit the DMV.
